• ATHEROMA: A soft pap-like tumour; also fatty degeneration of blood vessels.
• ATHETOSIS: A continuous stream of slow, sinuous, writing movements, typically of
the hands and feet.
• ATHRODESIS: Surgical fusion of a joint to relieve pain.
• ATONY: Lack of muscle tone.
• ATROPHY: Constriction of tube or canal.
• AURAL: Of the ear.
• AXILLA: The arm-pit.
